Samantha Campbell – Business 1st Networking

If you want to get to know people and grow your business in Fuengirola, Samantha Campbell is someone you need to meet! Starting her business networking group in 2009, her and her members meet twice a month to share business news, ideas, local information and referrals. We caught up with her to find out more.

Hi Samantha, where are you from and what did you do before coming to Spain?

I’m originally from the UK, hailing from Knutsford in Cheshire and I used to be the UK Sales Manager for a Telecoms company. This meant a lot of travel and I knew the M25 like the back of my hand.

What drew you to Spain?

30 years ago, in search of adventure and fun I came to Spain to travel and party and landed in Fuengirola and stayed for a year. Then in 2000, an opportunity arose to come and work here and I’ve never looked back.

Why Fuengirola?

As I had such fond memories of Fuengirola, it was the place I naturally came back to and 20 years on I think it is definitely one of the best places to live on the Costa del Sol. I love having everything on my doorstep; El Corte Ingles, Myramar Shopping Centre, the Zoo, Water Park, fabulous beaches…. shall I go on??  My son was born here and for kids this place is amazing – definitely a family friendly town.

It’s in a great location as well, with the airport 15 mins away and great train connection to Malaga, as well as bus routes to connect you to the rest of the Costa del Sol. You can live here without a car if you need to.

Fuengirola is cheaper too. From buying or renting property, to coffee and eating out, this part of the Coast definitely offers better value for money.

If you were advising visitors or new residents in Fuengirola on how to make the most of the place, what would you recommend?

Get out and explore! There is so much on your doorstep from lovely little shops, restaurants, chiringuitos, to beautiful churches and walkways. There’s also a real sense of community and welcoming environment, so don’t be shy, get involved in groups, activities, classes and clubs and integrate into your new environment. If you’re looking to start a new business here then networking is vital too. The more people you know and the more people that trust you and can recommend you, the better your business will perform and the more settled you’ll feel in your new life in Fuengirola.

I’m glad you mentioned networking, tell us more about your networking group

It’s called Business 1st and I started it in January 2009, as I realised that there was a gap in the market for a regular meeting place for men and women to meet over breakfast. We meet twice a month to share business news, ideas, local information and refer each other for business. You will find us two Thursdays a month at The Club House, El Chaparral Golf, La Cala de Mijas.

There’s a lovely group of members and we welcome non-members to come along and try it out and see if it’s right for them. If you are a new business or indeed have been here a long time and want to have the support of the best bunch of professional business people here on the coast, then you should contact us and see if we have a position available for your business.
