Gourmet Foodie Weekends in Málaga

Our Gourmet Foodie Weekends in Málaga will be held on the following dates in 2014 :

Thursday 11th September to Sunday 14th September : SOLD OUT

Thursday 18th September to Sunday 21st September : PLACES CURRENTLY AVAILABLE

The number of places per weekend is limited to 10 people catering for couples or single travellers.

Laura and Michael will be your hosts for the weekend and will be with you every step of the way to introduce you to the fabulous gastronomy and wines that Málaga has to offer. Both of us have lived here for many years (although British and Canadian by birth) and we both speak fluent Spanish.

Itinerary : (All the culinary events listed below are within easy walking distance of the Hotel and consequently walking between the venues will be the method of transport!)

Thursday : Arrival in Málaga with private taxi transfer from the airport to your centrally located 4 Star Hotel where you will be staying for the next three nights with breakfast included.

We will meet you in the reception of the Hotel at 7.00pm and walk a short distance to Málaga’s most famous old bar for a Welcome Drink and to get to know each other. Wines and sherries are served from the barrel and there are choices of finos, Pedro Ximénez, sweet Málaga Wine etc.

After the Welcome Drink we commence our Classic Tapas Tour and give you an introduction to the city as we walk around the historical city centre. During the course of the next three hours (not a lot of walking between bars) we will visit three Traditional Tapas Bars where we will eat classic dishes such as deep fried aubergine with cane syrup; marinated anchovies; porra – a thick, chilled tomato soup; baby squid cooked in their ink; prawns pil pil and many more dishes that are emblematic of local Andalucian Cuisine. Drinks are of course included throughout the tour.

After dinner: a gentle stroll back to the Hotel (plenty of bars and cafes in the local area if you fancy a night cap with new-found friends!)

Friday : A Buffet Breakfast is served in the hotel from 9.00am – 12 Noon!

Free time to pop out on your own and savour the atmosphere of the old town before meeting in reception at 11.30. Our first stop this morning (which will carry on through lunchtime) will be for the traditional Churros and Chocolate on our way to the fantastic Indoor Covered Food Market which is a feast for the senses. Housed in what was a boatyard in Moorish times, the market is divided into three sections of Fruit and Vegetables, Fish/Seafood and Meat. The market visit will definitely “whet” your appetite for our visit to two Gourmet Tapas Bars for Lunch. In these bars we will see (and taste) how traditional tapas have evolved into modern Gastro Tapas (using many local ingredients), and how young Chefs have been influenced by the great Spanish Chefs such as Ferran Adriá. Drinks are included during the visit to these two bars.

Back to the hotel after lunch by about 3.30pm (maybe a siesta – you are in Spain after all), before meeting again at 5.50pm for the short walk to a Spanish Cookery Class at 6.00pm – Laura and Michael will be on hand to translate!! Of course you will get to eat fruits of your labours with wine included.

Evening free from 8.00pm onwards to wander around town, maybe a stroll along the port area.
